    Cartier first landed in New foundland but shortly after moved to Prince Edward Island. He then moved in land down the St. Lawrence river to try and find more land and resources. This is where he chose to establish his settlement. He called this settlement New France and it was located in todays province of Qubec.

    Champlain was ordered to move down past Tudussac to discover new lands and possibly create new oppurtunities for trade. He did just that when he founded the cite of Quebec, He then allied with the Huron peoples to be helped with his mission of exploring the lands and creating trade. In return he fought the Iroquois for the Huron peoples.

    Champlain discovers the spot of Quebec after traveling further down the St.Lawrence R. This spot would be very influential in the rest of history and the developement of the Canada we live in today.

    The Filles du Rois ( which means the King's Daughters or King's girls) were sent by New France by Louis XIV to populate and balance out the difference between the number of men and women, as well as grow the population of New France. There were about 700 to 900 women sent between 1663 and 1673.

  • •Radisson and des Groseilliers reach Hudson Bay

    •Radisson and des Groseilliers reach Hudson Bay
    Medard des Groseilliers explorered what is now northern Ontario in 1654-1656 and was told by the First Nations that there were vast fur trading lands up near Hudson's Bay. In 1659, he returned to New France with thousands of furs but the officials confiscated them and arrested him and Pierre-Esprit Radisson for trading without a liscence, In 1669 they joined forces witht eh english and led them to Hudson Bay, bypassing the land that was owned by New France. 1670 was beginning of the company.

    •King of England grants Hudson’s Bay Company a monopoly of trade in Rupertsland
    The King of England during 1670 gave Hudsons Bay company a large amount of land. The land was named after Prince Rupert of the Rhine, who was a cousin of Charles I and was the first govenor of the Hudsons Bay company. The land was owned by the company for 200 years from 1670- 1870. Its area included all of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Southern Alberta, southern Nunavut, northern parts of Ontario and Quebec, as well as parts of North Dakota.

    After the Americans were threatened by the French, the British believed that in order to expand and grow their colonies, the French had to be eliminated. Benjamin Franklin urged the expulsion of the French which began with the expulsion of the Acadians. The Acadians took refuge in Quebec. This was the start of the Seven Years War.

    The treaty of Paris was signed September 3, 1783 and created by the Congress of the Confederation. This formally ended the American Revolutionary War between the Kingdom of Great Britain and the United States. France, Spain, and the Dutch republic also had agreements made.

    The Northwest company was headquartered in Montreal. In 1783 in went from being just a loose group of french share holders and fur traders, to the official Northwest Company. The two companies would compete eachother with sales and trading but enventually merge.

    Small settlement of Vikings were believed to have landed and settle a little village at L'Anse aux Meadows. The vikings stayed there for some time but left shortly after because they did not find many resources they found valuble.
