U.S joins the Allied war effort in retaliation for Pearl Harbour. Eventually over 10% of NJ resdents would serve in this war.

The work began in January, and the camp opened in June. Because of its proiximity to NY, it became the staging center for the Port of NY. Eventually, it became the largest processing center for troops heading overseas and returning from World War II. The camp was closed in 20009
