Writing a Nonfiction Article

  • Choose a Nonfiction Topic

Think of a nonfiction topic that you may want to research and learn more about.
  • Research your Nonfiction Topic

Go online, look at credible resources, and find information about your nonfiction topic. Be sure to write down the information and websites you find.
  • Create a Concept Map

Creating a concept map will help you decide on what important subtopics you want to research and how they connect to your main topic. Be sure to leave room for your introduction and conclusion in your concept map.
  • Create Jotnotes

Once you have found some information and websites, begin creating jotnotes of this important information. Creating jotnotes will help you in the writing process. Be sure not to write word for word with your jotnotes, they are meant to be done in your own words. Jotnotes are beneficial for when you begin writing because then you know what you have written is already in your own words.
  • Continue Jotnotes

Continue researching and writing your jotnotes.
  • Begin Writing

This is where you begin to write because you have completed all of your research. Using the jotnotes you have made, you may begin to write your introduction, subtopic paragraphs, and conclusion.
  • Continue Writing

Continue writing your article based on your jotnotes. Be sure to finish your writing before Monday (jan. 30/17).
  • Editing

Once you have finished the writing process you may begin the editing process. Be sure to edit your own work and have a partner edit your work. There should be no spelling or grammatical errors.
  • Submission

Once you have finished the research, jotnotes, writing, and editing of you nonfiction article. You may hand it in.
