    Creation of the Triple Enetry
    In 1871 the creation of the Triple Entente occurred. It was an informal alliance among Great Britain, France, and Russia based on three bilateral agreements (Dual Alliance Entente Cordiale and Britain and Russia negotiated a similar agreement.) They agreed that they would protect one another.

    In 1879, Bismarck formed the Dual Alliance between Germany and Austria- Hungary. This was the first alliance between two countries. After the dual alliance the triple alliance began.

The triple alliance is important because it brings countries together and makes them stronger in case otehr countries attack them. In the triple alliance was Italy, Austria-Hungary, and Germany.

Wilhelm was not the type of man that wants to share power with anyone. The military was Kaiser's greatest pride in his country. Wilhelm said " I and the army were born for one another."

    The Franco Russian Dual Alliance was signed between France and Russia in 1894. Kaiser Wilhelm II did not wish to maintain good relations with Russia, and so Russia decided to build a better relationship with France. Both France and Russia agreed to support one another in case of war.When the Dual Alliance was formed, the members of the Triple Alliance became very anxious.     In 1905 and again in 1911. Germany and France nearly fought over who would control Morocco, in Northern Africa. Moat of Europe supported France, so Germany backed down.
    This event is signifcant because it shows how imperialsm, expanding and empire by taking over weaker countries, led to intense competition and conflict between European countries

    Austria annexing Bosnia and Herzegovina
    in 1908 Austria-Hungary announced the annexation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Many countries took interest in these events. In April 1909 the Treaty of Berlin was amended to accept the new status quo bringing the crisis to an end. this permanently damaged the relations between Austria-Hungary and Russia and the Kingdom of Serbia.

Having a big army also brings fear to some people in the country. They are scared that other countries are going to attack them to gain more power.

    The Assassination of Archduke Ferdinand
    On June 28, 1914, a young Serbian nationalist named Gavrilo Princip killed Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the throne of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, in Sarajevo, Bosnia. The assassination provided Austria-Hungary with an excuse to take action against Serbia. Franz Ferdinand was buried in a crypt beneath the chapel of his castle, Artstetten, instead of the customary burial place of the Hapsburgs, Capuchin Crypt, in Vienna. Almost one month later world war I would occur.
