• Chinese Nationalists oust the last Qing emperor, Puyi

    Chinese Nationalists (who now reside in Taiwan) took control of China, declared it a republic, and got rid of the emperor.
  • World War I begins as Austria declares war of Serbia

    The Austrian heir to the throne, Archduke Franz Ferdinand was taking a vacation in Bosnia. A serbian member of the Black Hand assassinated him. Since the shooter was Serbian, Austria declared war on Serbia.
  • U.S. Enters the war

    Three actions led to the United States entering World War I.
    1. The sinking of the Lustiania by the Germans.
    2. The Zimmerman telegram by Germany to Mexico, which said that Germany would "help Mexico reconquer their lost territories."
    3. The US had stronger economic bonds with the Allies than the Central Powers.
  • Armistice signed as Allies defeat Central Powers

    After Germany failed their last attempt at the Second Battle of the Marne, they knew they were defeated. Due to this, they signed an armistice with the Allies on a French car.
  • Gandhi leads Indian camapaign of civil disobedience

    Mohandas Ghandi wanted to lead India to freedom from the Brittish, as they were fed up with the restrictions and taxes the Brtishi imposed upon them. However, Ghandi was not a good speaker, so his way of leading the Indian people was by performing peaceful, yet rebellious actions, and encouraging others to do the same.
  • Mustafa Kemal transforms Turkey into Republic

    Mustafa Kemal was brought into power by the Ottoman leaders when Greece (with Brittish support) was about to invade Turkey. After the war was over, the Turkish people were fed up with the Ottoman's rule and let Kemal stay in power. He modernized Turkey, brought Western ideals into the nation, and transformed it into a republic.
  • Mao Zedong heads Long March

    In danger of being wiped out by the Chinese Nationalists, Maozedong led his Communist army on an extremely long and dangerous trek to evade the Nationalists. Only 10% of the men that started on the march survived, but the Communist party lived on.
