    The National Organization for Women, also known as the NOW, was formed in 1966. It is the largest organization of feminist activists in the U.S. today. They currently have over 500,000 active members. Since NOW's founding in 1966, their goal has been to bring about equality for all women.
  • Gay Liberation Front

    Gay Liberation Front
    Gay Liberation Front was the name of a number of Gay Liberation groups, the first of which was formed in New York City in 1969. The GLF believed in sexual liberation for all people, freedom and equality in society. They also opposed and addressed other social inequalities between 1969 and 1972, such as racism, militarism, and sexism. Because of internal disagreements, the GLF officially ended it's operations in 1972.

She is particularly interested in the shared origins of sex and race caste systems, gender roles and child abuse as roots of violence, non-violent conflict resolution, and the culures of indigenous peoples.

    A court case arguing weather or not a woman should be allowed to have an abortion. Over the course of this case, most of the U.S. was divided. Some wanting to become a pro-life country, while others wanted to become a pro-choice country. Abortion is legal at this time but still hotly debated.

    Born on March 26, 1930, Sandra Day O'Conner was the first woman to serve on the supreme court. She was appointed by Ronald Reagan in 1981, and served as an Associate Justice until her retirement in 2006. O'Connor played a supporting role in the Roe v. Wade case, however she did not let her views on abortion become known.

    The ERA was originally written by Alice Paul in 1923. In 1972, it passed both houses of Congress and went to the state legislatures for ratification where it failed to be accepted by the congressmen.

    Don't Ask Don't Tell

    Don't ask don't tell, or "DADT" came into effect on December 21, 1993. It was placed to put an end to discrimination of gays and lesbians in the military. In the military, an officer is unable to ask about your sexual orientation and most won't talk about it. The don't ask don't tell policy was lifted on September 20, 2011 and is not currently in effect any longer.

    In 2012, a vote deciding weather or not same sex marriages would be recognized in the court of law. Amendment one would have marriage legalise only between one man and one woman. The vote was held May 8th, and the amendment ultimately passed.
