  • Current Practices

    The WCSD created Mill School & Technology Academy in 2009. The school has 1 to 1 Laptop Program for Gr 3-5 and1 to 1 iPod Touch Learning Program for Gr 2. Both Middle Schools IPad Carts in ELD Classrooms, integrating the use of the iPad into current language development lessons.
    The district Tech Cadre comprised of teacher respresenatives from all 11 schools are piloting the use of iPad in various classooms (K-8, SPED). All school use an online data managemnt system.
  • First steps toward collaboration

    In 2012-13 the district will move to Google Apps for education. Administration and teachers will begin using Google Docs. as a platform for collaboration.District led professional development focusing on the use of Edmodo as a platform to provide instant access to materials, quick response for students and collaboration.
  • Building Techonolgy Base

    Four more schools start to utilize mobile devices. Each having 2 to 3 iPod/iPad carts. Teacher cohort of mobile device classrooms are offered ongoing professional development throughout the school year and begin to design lessons together.
  • Student led learning

    Students all have access to Google apps for education. They regularly use Google docs for collaboration, data gathering and project creation. Classrooms provide a stucture for the learning, while becoming less and less teacher directed.
  • Beginning to go 1 to 1

    Middle schools begin a 1 to 1 24/7 iPad program for grades 6-8. Professional development focuses on project based learning
  • Continuing the 1 to 1

    Elementary schools begin a 1 to 1 24/7 iPad program in grades 3-5 and an in class 1 to 1 iPad program in grades K-2. Professional development continues to focus on project based learning.
  • Expanding

    Student access to 1 to 1 mobile technology is fully implemented. The learning is 24/7 and students are regularly showcasing their learning. They are exposed beyond the boundaries of Whittier City School District.
  • Digital Natives Lead the Way

    The school site has become a place for students to check in when necessary. Students are increasingly in charge of their own learning.
