  • English settlers come to America

    Settlers come to the New World in search of wealth and a new beginning.
  • African slaves come to America

    African slaves were brought unwillingly to America to work
  • Pilgrims come to America

    Pilgrims come to America in search of religious freedom and to get away from prosecution they were experiencing in England.
  • American Revolution Begins

    America Fights for its freedom from British rule.
  • American Revolution ends

    British rule is ended.
  • Native American Trail of Tears

    Over 100,000 Native Americans are forced out of their homes to Territories west of the Mississippi River. Over 15,000 will die on this journey.
  • Dred Scott V. Sandford

    Dred Scott sues the executor of his former masters estate. Loses case. Slaves are not considered citizens because of African decent.
  • Civil War begins

    Civil War is fought over slavery and its place in the expanding United States
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    Abraham Lincoln's proclamation declares over 3 million slaves free
  • Civil War Ends

    Slavery is ended in the United States as the Confederacy falls to the Union
  • Civil Rights Act

    States that anyone born in a specific state is a citizen and has the rights of said state
  • 14th Amendment

    Added to 14th Amendment both national and state citizenship will be covered under the Civil Rights statute
