    Birth of Vladimir Lenin
    Vladimir Lenin was born April 22nd, 1870. His birth name was Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov. He was born in Simbirsk, Russia on the Volga River. He was the son of Ilya Nikolaevich Ulyanov and Maria Alexandrovna Ulyanova (Naden 14-16).
    This is significant because Lenin greatly affected the history of Russia.

    Alexander Graham Bell introduced his idea of a "speaking telegraph" in 1876. In the next few years many Americans saw the value increase for business and personal communication. By 1880, there were 50,000 telephones being used (King 109).

    In 1879, Thomas Edison eveloped the first incandescent light bulb. This light bulb consisted of a carbonized bamboo filament inside an airtight globe of blown glass, After many failures, he installed the first central power station in New York City in 1882 (King 109).

    Aleksandr Ulyanov, Lenin's older brother was hung after being caught planning an assasination attempt on Czar Aleksander III. Aleksandr was arrested in St. Petersburg. He was convicted and hung at the age of 17 (Liversidge 5-6).
    This is significant because it hardened his hatred for the repressive culture of Russia.

    When Lenin was 17 he began studying law and the works of Karl Marx and Frederich Engles. He was then expelled from the university when he participated in a riot supporting Marxism. He ended up getting a law degree by himself.
    This is significant because it gave Lenin a solid background of politics.

    In April of 1895 Lenin met with a Marxist group "Osvobozhenie Truda." This influenced him to organize the illegal "Union for the Liberation of the Working Class." This was important because this organization carried on propaganda among the workers (Trotsky 1)

    When caught plotting agaisnt the Tsar, Lenin was arrested on December 7th 1896. After spending a year in jail in St. Petersburg, Lenin was exiled to Siberia. Lenin then married Nadezhda Krupskaya in exile. After 3 years in exile he left Russia for Western Europe (Marxists.org 1).
    This is significant because it allowed him to write his first book "the Development of Capitalism.

    The Wright Brothers make their first successful flight at Kitty Hawk, NC.Wilbur and Orville Wright conducted the first flight in an airplane they built themselves. They made four trips, and the longest was 852 feet and lasted 59 seconds (King 129).
    This is important because it influenced others to improve apon their creation, which lead to easier and faster travel.

    Hundreds died in the massacre when chaos broke out in Russia. Strikes swept across the country closing making industries. Lenin returned to Russia later in the year when the revolution failed, in November (Historyguide.com)
    This was an imprtant event because it inspired strong emotions because of the death of 13 men who fired up the populace on both sides.

    The Titanic left England and was on its way to New York. After four days of sailing, it stuck an iceberg. With only 20 lifeboats, over 1,500 lives were lost (Eye Witness to History.com 1).
    This was an important event because many people died because of the lack of lifeboats. Today no ship is allowed unless there are enough lifeboats for everyone on the ship.

    Lenin leads the overthrow of the Russian Provisional Government and the battle for the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg.His goal was to place Russia under Bolshevik control. He thought of the slogon "All power to the soviets" to define his movement (Liversidge 5-6).
    This event was important because the Soviet Union took control of Russia.

    The Treaty of Versailles officially ends World War 1. Germany surrendered and all nations agreed to stop fighting. Up to 12 million lives were lost (King 119).
    This event was important because it changed the way of countries negotiation and incidentally paved the way for World War 2.

    Suffers first stroke
    Lenin's first of four strokes was on May 26nd, 1922 which prevented him from speaking for weeks. His second stroke was took place 4 months after which forced him to retire from politics. His third stroke took place in March, 1923 which led him to his death bed and left him mute (History of Russia.org ).
    This was important because it led to the cause of his death.
    This is significant because after his first stroke he had three others which led to his death.
  • Lenin's Death

    Lenin's Death
    Vladimir Lenin died after having his 4th stroke on January 4th, 1924. Stalin replaced him as the Soviet Union's leader and St. Petersburg was renamed Leningrad in honor of the first Soviet Union leader. Lenin's body was embalmed and perserved and is on display in the Lenin Mausoleum (History of Russia.org ).
    This event is important because Lenin will forever have an effect on Russia.
