LAUSD’s system of professional development delivery needs to transition from classroom instructor-led training to virtual instructor-led training for many reasons, cost-effectiveness being the most influential.

Currently, the majority of professional development in our district consists of in-person training, and as a result, LAUSD’s instructional initiatives may not be communicated nor implemented as effectively because the number of professional development meetings offered are limited due to lack of time and resources. This may stem from the fear of using technology and the belief that virtual learning is not as effective as classroom learning.

Integration beta testing with MyPLN vendor Cornerstone. Users will be able to launch directly into ADOBE Connect webcasts from their transcript in MyPLN. LAUSD MyPLN Content Developers will have access to create and manage webcasts in ADOBE Connect and build out virtual instructor led training sessions in MyPLN for certificated staff.

90 LAUSD Content Developers attended this two-part training to learn how to set up Virtual Instructor Led Training in MyPLN and best practices for creating engaging virtual content for live webinars.

MyPLN sent out a video greeting card as a branding message that reminded trained participants to delivery a live virtual PD before the end of the school year.

The LAUSD Magnet School office invites guest speaker Dr. John Lee from North Carolina State University to introduce the new Social Studies C3 Framework- via webcast to STEAM middle school social studies teachers. Our first successful live virtual training. The MyPLN team provided technical production assistance during the training.

It was one year ago that we began the MyPLN Virtual Instructor Led Training initiative and we have supported 17 content developers deliver 52 VILTs since January 31, 2017 and counting. We are training another 30 this month. It's a start!!
