    In 1492 Christopher Columbus voyaged and found the Americas.

    In this timeline I will covering from when Columbus first came to America, until post civil war times of the United States. I will show key and main events on this timeline.
  • Jamestown, the first settlement.

    Jamestown, the first settlement.
    Located in Virginia, it was the first permanent settlement of the British in the Americas.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    The first direct tax imposed on the American colonists from the British parliament. It required the colonists to pay a tax on every single piece of printed paper.
  • The Boston Masscre

    The Boston Masscre
    British soldiers killed American colonists without orders. This caused tons of conflict between the two parties, and was a key point of leading up to the American Revolution.
  • The Tea Act

    The Tea Act
    Was a law passed giving full control of the trade to the East India Tea Company. They could now deliver the tea straight to the colonists, and not stopping in England.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party
    Was a political protest by the American Colonists. They were upset about taxation "without representation." Therefore, they dumped tea into the harbor.

    These battles were the first battles and military engagements of the Revolutionary War. Marked the start of the Independence War. The famous "shot heard around the world" was the staple of the start.

    Also known as The War of Independence, was the war that freed the thirteen colonies from British rule. The war which made it possible to establish independence.

    Was put into place in 1776. It has three main points. (1) all men equal and the rights of liberty and pursuit of happiness (2) the main job of government is to protect those rights (3) if government doesnt withhold, people can revolt.

    It was an agreement between the thirteen colonies that made the name United States of America. It served as the first constitution. Also it gave power to the government, which was led by congress.

    George Washington was the first president of the United States. He was also a founding father of the writing of the Constitution, as well as the Articles of Confederation.

    Thomas Jefferson made a purchase from France of the west side of the Mississippi River basin. This was to enable access to the port of New Orleans for trading.

    Was an expedition across the Northwest newly purchased from France. Was to locate routes that would connect the continental to the Pacific.

    Was a war against Great Britain, Ireland, and the American colonies. The Treaty of Ghent was signed through this war. Also, there were no boundary changes, but many problems were still fixed.

    Is a canal that runs from the Hudson River to Lake Erie. It was the longest artificial waterway, and it put the state of New York on the map as an strong industrial and economic city.

    The Trail of Tears was a series of forced removals for Native Americans from their homes in the south to Indian Territory in Oklahoma. They were marched at gunpoint for hundreds of miles.
  • Confederacy

    Confederacy
    Formed by seven slave states that renounced their agreement with the rest of the United States. They attempted to establish a new nation with slavery being allowed. This led to the Civil War.
  • The Civil War

    The Civil War
    This was the war between the North and the South. Union against the Confederacy. The South lost meaning the Confederacy was no more, and slavery collapsed.
  • The Battle of Gettysburg

    The Battle of Gettysburg
    A major battle of the Civil War. From the 1st of July to the 3rd. The North won the battle, but not only the battle, they started to win the war. After this Europe allied with the Union.
  • Assassination of Abraham Lincoln

    John Wilkes Booth shot and killed the fifth president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, at Ford's Theatre in Washington, DC.
