    Hernan Cortes

    Hernan Cortes traveled to Mexico, where he met an Indian slave called Malinche, who helped him take down the Aztec. Both the native and Spanish culture started mixing.
  • Virginia Company

    A joint-stock company received a charter from King James I that gave the settlers Englishmen rights in the New World
  • Jamestown

    Jamestown, named after King James I, was the first permanent English settlement located near the James River in Virginia.
  • Tobacco Rush

    The production of Tobacco became an epidemic in Virginia. It led colonists to expand more land to make room for plantations, which was very good for the economy.
  • House of Burgesses

    At this time North American slave system consisted in enslaving Africans. Democracy was born, an assembly was held, known as the House of Burgesses. The first parliament held in America.
  • Powhatan's Downfall

    After the second Anglo-Powhatan War, where the natives were defeated, the peace treaty hated the idea of Virginians coexisting with the Powhatan, which contributed to the extinction of a native tribe.
