    Magna Carta
    First document that limited a kings power. We used it to limit our government when making our government.
  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    The British wanted control of North America. It caused Americans to have their taxes skyrocket to pay for the war.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    British men killed 5 American Colonists over a snowball fight. It ended up with Britain making higher taxes
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    This was the first official battle of America and Britain which America ended up winning.
  • 2nd Continental Congress

    2nd Continental Congress
    They started to talk about actually leaving England and Thomas Jefferson started coming up with a formal statement to leave. This eventually lead to the Declaration of Independence being made.
  • George Washington elected Commander in Chief

    George Washington elected Commander in Chief
    When America first started to go to war with England they elected George Washington because of his skill being a good leader that ended up being what they needed to win our independence. He helped us gain our independence from England and helped us be the longest standing democracy

    Final draft of the Decleration of Independence was made and America finally got its independence. We are now independent and follow our own democracy and are the longest standing democracy.

    Colonists protested the British by dressing up as Indians and dumping tea off British ships. This ignited the American Revolution which in turn ended up with us getting freedom from Britain

    This made the structure of our government. It explains the goals, powers and responsibilities of the branches and the amendments. We still use these and is how no one has overthrown our government .

    In 1787, They added 10 Amendments which protected our rights that we have as Americans. They have since added 17 more in the last 200 years but we stick to them so that we can have justice if someone does something wrong.

    The South declared war on the North because they couldn’t come to an agreement about slaves and tariffs. The slaves were freed.
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    This was an important step because this ended up being the reason why we got the 13th Amendment. 9 million people were free and no longer were forced to be a place they didn’t want to be in under horrible conditions
  • Gettysburg Address

    Gettysburg Address
    Lincoln honored all the people who have died and tried to reenforce the equality as it says in the Declaration of Independence and why they didn’t need to have the Civil War anymore. This became the one of the most famous speeches in America.

    Robert E. Lee had started loosing too many men so he realized they needed to surrender to Ulysses S. Grant which caused them to lose the Civil War. The Union had them surrounded a few days before the surrendered so they knew it was going to happen eventually.

    He got assassinated while watching a play because the killer wanted to bring back the Confederacy. John Wilkes Booth killed himself when he got cornered by police and the people who all conspired with him either got hung or got jailed.
