    Peak of the Ottoman Empire under Suleyman. The empire is no longer expanding after this time, which means they are collecting money by pillaging cities- a main source of income for the Ottomans.

    No longer expanding territory and are loosing battles to European countries.
  • Ottoman Failure to Expand Territories

    The Ottomans attempt and fail to conquer Venice, a major defeat signifying the Ottomans diminishing prowess. The Austrians are pushing back their territories and decreasing the Ottomans.
  • Greece Revolts

    With the help of Russia, France, and Britain; the Greek revolt against the Ottomans- another decrease in their territories.
  • Committee of Union and Progress is Formed

    Was widely known as the "Young Turk Movement", and supporting the idea that the Turks should be the dominant group in Ottoman society.
  • Ottomans Join the Central Powers in WWI

    At the end of the war, most of the Ottoman territories were either taken during the war or taken via treaties with other countries.
  • Abandonment of Sultanate System

    Turkey Moves away from Sultans, replaced by a western influenced democratic system.

    Mufasta Kemal Ataturk, a highly decorated military official, is named the president of Turkey
  • New Education System Implanted

    National education system implanted, replacing the existing Islamic education system. This reform was another attempt to diminish the influence of Islam on Turkish society. The shift also increased the amount of students.
  • Ban of the Fez Hat

    Fez was a symbol of the Ottoman empire, it's ban was another reform by Ataturk to diminish the effect of the Ottomans on Turkey.

    The headwear that identified someone as an Ulema (a religious official, left over from the Ottomans) was banned.

    Turkey adopts a new civil code influenced by the Swiss Civil code.
  • Turkey Abandons its Relgious Affiliation with Islam

    Islam was at the center of the Ottoman society, the Turkish Nationalists move away from Islam in an attempt for people to identify less as Islamic and more as Turkish.
  • Turkey Begins Using the Latin Alphabet

  • Scientific Articles Being Published Supporting the Society for the Examination of Turkish History's Claims

    Many scientific articles were being published proving that the early innovations of Turkey had a major impact on the rest of the world. Historians were saying that without the influence of Turkey the other societies (such as China and India) would have made developments much later.
  • Society for the Examination of Turkish History Founded

    Society with the purpose of perpetuating Turkish nationalism through history. They declared that the human origin lied in Turkish Territory. Making the Turkish responsible for any and all achievements by humans. Ataturk wanted what the society was saying to be the dominant narrative so people would have pride in their country. Ataturk's goal was to wipe out the imprint of the Ottomans by diminishing their impact and placing a larger emphasis on the earlier portions of Turkey's history.
