Page 5 "That's the only way he can..... He has no money" "The Cunninghams are country folks, and the crash hit them the hardest" page 5
Walter Cunningham. Sr. brings by hickory nuts to Atticus to repay his debt little by little. Scout is confused by this and Atticus explains that the Cunninghams are poor country folk, and the Great Depression hit them hard. Attucks lent them money and Walter has no money to pay him back. So he pays by other means. -
Page 4 "No sir, not until you agree to play football for the Methodists"
Jen thinks his father is old and useless at his current age, though Atticus used to be an athlete and mainly active man. Atticus refuses and Jen refuses to leave the tree until he agrees. -
Page 5 "Since scout and Jem's mother had died, while Atticus is at work, calpurnia is in charge of the children"
Calpurnia is what I think to be a good friend of Atticus and his family and she agreed to help him raise the children as a favor since their mother had passed away years ago -
Page 7 "Hey......" "Hey yourself"
This is the scene where Jem and Scout meet another major charecter Dill. He plays a huge roll in most of the rest of the story. -
Page 8 "I haven't got one" "My daddy runs the L and R railroad"
Dill is lying about having a father. At first he says that his father isn't dead, but when jem asks, he blushes. When he meets calpurnia, he says his "father" runs a railroad. -
Page 10 "Dill, I don't want you playing around that house, a maniac lives there"
Stephanie is warning her nephew about the Ridleys house and the violent history of mr. Raddled beating his son. And his son boo stabbing him.
