In 1400 explorers started to explore Africa. They discovered that Africa has been inhabited for over 4,000,000 and is now believed to be "the birthplace of humankind''.

This was explorers and being the first ones to find new land and make riches off the land. It opened up a whole new world since all they knew was Asia, Europe, and Africa.

The Asante were a group of powerful people with a kingdom in West Africa that grew from slave trade. Thie rise of the Asante began in 1670 and ended in 1874 when Britian captured the capitol. In the 1700's the Asante's main source of income was to sell slaves to the Dutch and British slave traders in return for fairearms until slavery was outlawed, forcing them to sell gold, ivory, and cocoa.

Arkwright's water frame is a famous machine for spinning cotton fiber into yarn. The machine name was later changed to the Water Frame after it was created in 18769.

In the year 1859 Charles Darwin released his book called the Origin of Species about evolution and natural selection. In the book he included all his findings he recorded when he went to the Galapogos Islands. He saw birds that were nearly exactly the same except their beaks. He went against everyone's beliefs that the world was only a few thousand years by saying all the change in these birds could not have occured in a thousand years.

Social Darwinism is various theories which say biological concepts of natural selection and survival of the fittest. Herbert Spencer was the first one to use the phrase survival of the fittest once he read Darwins book.

The partiton of Africa which was the splitting of Africa into terotories owned by European countries. The splitting of Africa occured from 1881-1914. The splitting plan started in the Berlin Confrence and was the cause of how most of the borders in Africa look how they do today. By 1914 around 90% of Africa had been split by seven countries from Europe.
