  • Slave Trade Act of United Kingdon

    Effectively ended the legal slave trade on Atlantic seas. Did not, however, manage to surpress the now black-market slave trade.

    The Ten-Years War

    First attempt to form a Nation of Cuba. Originated in Eastern Cuba.
  • Moret Law passed

    Freed children born of slaves and those slaves over the age of 60.
  • Rebel government grants full rights to slaves

    This did little more than relegate the freedmen to agriculture and manufacturing poisitions that were needed by the rebellion.
  • Zanjón Treaty

    -recognized freedom of slaves fighting on rebel side
    -recognized freedom of coolies fighting on rebel side
    -promised some liberal reform to colonial government

    2nd of the Cuban Wars for Independence. Famous for when José Martí Pérez emerges.
  • Spanish Cortes passes Trust Law

    Effectively keeps former slaves in indentured servitude, legalized and recodified the terms and conditions of slavery. Patronato instead of slave owner.
