Mariner 3 and 4 were built on November 5th, 1965 to fly by planets and take photos of them. Mariner 4 took this photo of Mars.

Viking 1 and 2 each had 2 spacecraft. One was to orbit and the other spacecraft landed on the surface to take and return images of Mars to Earth. They were launched on August 20th and September 9th of 1975. This is an image of Viking 2.

The Mars Observer was launched on September 25th of 1992. It had a mission to photograph Mars, monitor it's climate, and study Mars' geography. This is an image taken from the Mars Orbiter.

Launched on November 7th of 1996, the Mars Global Surveyor was a spacecraft built to study the Martian atmosphere and ground. It had several cameras that helped it make a daily global map.

The Mars Pathfinder was the first rover NASA sent to Mars.It was tasked with looking for evidence of ancient water and monitor the martian atmosphere. It was launched on December 4th of 1996.

The Mars Climate Orbiter was launched on December 11th of 1998. It was built to monitor the climate of Mars. The orbiter burned up after entering Mars' atmosphere too low.

The Mars Polar lander was launched on January 3rd of 1999. It was built to drill into the martian surface and find water ice.

The Mars Odyssey was launched on April 7th of 2001 with a mission to make global maps of many chemical elements. It's also a communication relay for rovers and landers on Mars.

Spirit and Opportunity were twin rovers sent to Mars to look for signs on microbial life. They were launched in 2003.

The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter was built to study the geology and atmosphere of Mars. It is still operating and was launched on August 12th of 2005.

The Mars Phoenix was launched in August 7th, 2007. It had the mission to see if the spot where it landed was hospitable for life.

The Curiosity Rover was launched on the 26th of November of 2011. It was built to see if Mars was ever fit to house microbes and is still operating.

The InSight lander was built to drill deep into Mars' interior and help understand how the planets in our solar system were built. It was launched on May 5th of 2018.

Perseverance is a rover built to look for signs of past microbial life. It will also drill into rocks and store them in vials for a future mission to collect. It recently landed on Mars on the 18th of February, 2021.
