    In 1835, Texians repelled a Mexican attempt to retake a small cannon, which started the Texas Revolution. Over the next three months, the Texians successfully defeated all Mexican troops in the region.

    Santa Anna led Mexican troops to besiege the Alamo Mission in San Antonio de Bexar, while General Jose de Urrea led troops up the coast of Texas. Urrea's forces defeated Texian resistance, ending in the Goliad Massacre. After a thirteen-day siege, Santa Anna's forces overwhelmed the Texians at the Alamo. The battle cry "Remember the Alamo!" became a symbol of the Texas Revolution.
