    The United States bought Louisiana from France for $15 million because Napoleon I needed money for Europe conquest. It was a good bargain for the United States because it doubled the size of the country.

    The expedition allowed the United States of America to explore unknown territories and find a water route to the Pacific Ocean. They forged a path which permitted commerce with the East. The two explorers provided maps and information to settlers in order to continue the American expansion to the West.

    It refers to a group of settlers who migrated from the Midwest to California by wagon trains.
    Some of them were stuck due to the heavy snow in the Sierra Nevada moutains, that's why some of them resorted to cannibalism.
    Half of them survived to this long journey.

    More than 300 000 people came to California seeking for gold (they were called the 49ers). James Marshall started this period when he found the very first gold nugget. The Gold Rush stopped 7 years later because people weren't able to find gold and earn enough money.

    The Homestead Act of 1862 was signed by US President Abraham Lincoln on the 20th of May, 1862.
    In 1862, the Homestead Act granted voluntary pioneers 160 acres of land for free if they lived on it for 5 years.
