    Rome had polictical instability. They couldn't figure out how to transfer new leaders fairly. Rome also had economic and social problems. To finance Rome's huge armies, there was heavy taxes. There wasn't enough jobs to support everyone. Crime made the streets unsafe. Finally, the weakening frontiers also caused Rome to fall. A big country is hard to defend. It even took weeks for commanders weeks to communicate. In 476 C.E., the last emperor was driven off the throne by Germanic tribes.

    The Byzantium Empire was a continuatuatioin of the Roman Empire. It started when the emperor Constantine moved the capital to Byzantium, also known as Constantinople. The Creation of the Byzantium Empire also created the Eastern Orthodox Church, different from the Roman Catholic Church. These two systems permenantly divided Byzantium from Rome.
