  • Ylla

    Take place on Mars, in a cold and electric atmosphere.This chapter talks about a couple of martian: Yll and Ylla. They symbolise a typic 1940's couple and because they are married they seems to be old.One day Ylla begin to have premonitory dreams: she saw a Earthman coming on Mars, he talked to her and said she is pretty. She wants her husband to be jealous because he not payed attention to her.He become jealous because of the dream. Finally, he kills the Earthman and nobody is aware of his act.
  • The Summer Night

    -Interchapter, takes place on Mars.
    -All around Mars, martians are singing american songs. So they don't understand what they song. It foreshadow something.
  • The Earth men

    Captain Williams and his crew came on Mars. No martian payed attention to their awesome trip. They're finally sent to an asylum and there the crazy martian are impressed. We discover that martian are telepathic and earth man can see their hallucinations. Finally, the psychologist shoot all the earth men and himself.
  • The Taxpayer

    Interchapter. It talks about Pritchard, a taxpayer. He is worried about a close nuclear war on earth and he wanted to go with the Mars expeditrion. He finally didn't go and stayed on Earth.
  • The Third Expendition

    Captain Black came to mars with 17 men. They discovered a town like the one they grew up in. One crew member saw his dead grandparents, who told him they came up to Mars after their death. Then, the captain saw his dead brother and parents. he went with them to their old house to pass the night. Finally, the relatives were telepathic martians and they killed the earth men. The next day, the martians made funerals for all the earth men.

    A fourth expedition came on Mars and found that all the martians are died from chickenpox. Spender, a earth man, is shocked by the similarity of martian's culture and earth's one. He became crazy and started to kill me of the expedition to preserve Mars from the colonization. Finally, another man of the crew, Wilder, talks with him about the similarity and found an agreement. Wilder, after all, killed Spender

    Interchapter. Eath men came to Mars, they were a few and they were lonely.
  • The Green Morning

    Benjamin Driscoll, an earth man, have a hard time breathing because on Mars there is less oxygen than on Earth. He decided to plant trees to have oxygen, like Johnny Appleseed planted trees for food. He talked to the co-ordinator about his idea, he agreed and it became Benjamin's job. Unfortunately, it's to dry on Mars and no trees grew up. One night it rained and it was the green morning next day.
  • The Locusts

    Interchapter. Earth men came on Mars, they built a dozen small towns in six months.
  • Night Meeting

    Talks about Tomas Gomez, he met an old man who like how life on Mars is strange and different. Next, he met a martian, they can touch each other but they can't understand and see each other. Finally, Tomas thought it was a vision or a dream.
  • The Shore

    Interchapter. It talks about the first man and the first woman. There is a big comparaison with the Bible.
  • The Fire Balloons

    The story talks about Father Peregrine, Father Stone, and some other priests who were going to Mars. Peregrine wanted to go to convert people. They went to find the other martian race they had heard talking about. But Martians are mostly dead. Father Peregrine is convinced that these blue globes are intelligent and have souls and he convinced Stone about this idea. Then, they build a church for the blue spheres. They failed, martian didn't accept.
  • Interim

    Interchapter. It talks about earth men building a town similar than on Earth but on Mars.
  • The Musicians

    During a walk on Mars young boys from Earth played with the martians' dead bodies. There was a crew named "Firemen" who were coming to burn the bodies to prevent diseases.
  • Way Up In The Middle Of The Air

    The story takes place in a Southern town, it talks about
    Samuel Teece, a racist man, who was sitting and talking with other men. Belter, a black man who owes some money to Samuel, paid him his dept. Then, Samuel tried to keep his employee Silly on Earth. The other guys convinced him to let Silly go, so he leave. Samuel went on the street to catch Silly, unfortunately they were blocked, and he can't stop the immigration. Samuel finally said to Silly that he still called him "Mister."
  • The Naming Of Names

    Interchapter. it talks of the earth men naming all the new towns.
  • The Old One

    Interchapter. Mars become saffer and old people come to retire.
  • The Martian

    The story talks aout Lafe and Anna LaFarge who were an old married couple. They were on Mars to forget their dead son Tom, who died of a pneumonia. Lafe saw Tom and guessed that it was a telepathic martian. They loved him like their son. One day, when he went to the Spaulding family, he looked like their lost daughter and never like Tom again. Lafe went to take back Tom but he ran through the town and everyone saw him as who they want him to be but trying to be everything to everyone kills Tom.
  • The Luggage Store

    Father Peregrine came to the luggage store to talk about the war coming on Earth. The owner of the luggage-store thought that people will return to Earth because it is still their home there and not on Mars. He finally decided to keep his store open for people who would soon be going back to Earth and want new luggage.
  • The Off Season

    Sam Parkhill had a hot dog stand. A Martian approached him, he shot him down. His wife Elma saw a martian's fleet that was coming over the sea. Sam tried to escape and he robbed a sand ship. He finally abandoned the chase and he learned that the Martians only wanted to talk to him. They gave to Sam a part of a land on Mars and they leave. He saw finally Earth burning.
  • The Watchers

    Interchapter. People on Mars watched at night explosions all over Earth. The survivor on Earth call the earth men on Mars back home and they made their luggage.
  • The Silent Towns

    Walter Gripp is the last man on Mars, he was a minor and he missed all the rockets back to Earth. He found the last woman on Mars, Genevieve Selsor,who was not like in his dream. She ate a lot of chocolate and watch always the same movie. He was finally happy alone.
  • The Long Years

    A man, Hathaway, was living on Mars with his family. One night, he went to the cemetery, he looked up into the sky and he saw a rocket coming. He burnt a nearby city to make the rocket saw him. When the rocket lands, he saw Captain Wilder. He was looking for survivors to take back to Earth. Wilder sent a man to investigate something. Hathaway had a heart attack and died. Wilder realized that the other family members were robots made to replace the family who have died of a virus, then he left.
  • There Will Come Soft Rains

    The story takes place in Allendale, California. It's about an automatic house where nobody is living. There is a voice in the house and it does all. The family's dog goes to the house dies and it cleans up his dead body. Next, the house sing a poem. Finally, the strong wind starts a fire and the house burns
  • The Million-Year Picnic

    The story talks about Timothy's family who went to Mars for vacation. During a fishing time the family decided to stay forever in Mars. Timothy was sad but another family might join them. Timothy's dad burned the rocket and brought them to the canal. In the reflect of the water Timothy's family saw martians, they are the martians.
