As a rocket launches from its platform to set off to Mars it creates a climate shift that changes the weather from winter to summer in minutes. The townspeople dubbed it ¨Rocket Summer¨ -
Yella
Yella a martian woman starts to have visions and dreams of a human astronaut named Nathaniel York he plans to take Ylla back to Earth with him. However, Ylla tells her husband of these dreams and the day York lands instead of meeting Ylla Capt. York meets her husband who shoots him in the face and kills him -
The Summer Night
On Mars it is night and the martians are gathering in cities listening to music or going to sleep much in the same way humans do until the martians start to here human songs and poems in their heads. The adults hear a lord tenyson poem and the kids hear an old nursery rhyme. The martians are in panic as they wonder where the words are coming from -
The Earth Men
Capt. Williams and his crew land on Mars for the Earthś second expediton and meet some of the locals who want nothing to do with them. Eventually the capt meets a martian called Mr. XXX who thinks the capt is just a crazy martian. Even after Williams shows him the ship Mr.XXx shoots Williams and his crew whom he thinks are projections. However, when the two men don dissapear Mr. Xxx shoots himself -
The Taxpayer
Pritchard is a citizen of Earth, who wants to escape the potential atom war on earth. He begs to go to Mars and even gets arrested trying to get on the third expediton as he figures its better than Earth since Captian York and Captian Williams haven't come back. -
The Third Expedtion
17 new astronauts set out to Mars one dies on the way there. Eventually the men land and find an old earth style town. Eventually the 16 crew members meet their “dead” relatives in the town and they decide to stay the night. In his childhood home Capt. Black comes up with a theory that the Martians are using the memories of the men to trick them and kill them. Before Capt. Black can warn them he dies as do the other 15 crew members. The martians than hold an Earth style funeral for the men. -
And the Moon Be Still As Bright
A fourth expedtion lands on Mars and the crew finds all the Martians have died from the chicken pox carried by a member of an earlier expedtion. The crew celebrate and explore the town when one of the members named Spender goes rouge and crazy thinking he's a martian and then kills 6 crew members until the captain kills spender and promises to not let humans ruin Mars -
The Settlers
After the success of the fourth expediton more people are coming to Mars to get away from their struggles and lives on Earth. However, people are contracting a disease called the lonliness that is giving people homesickness as they see their home planet fall away into nothingness -
The Green Morning
Benjamin Driscoll is planting trees in order to bring more oxygen into the Mars atmosphere. It is his job and he does so that more people can safely settle on Mars without almost suffocating like he did. While awaking from a nap Driscoll makes a shocking discovery that the trees he has planted a few hours ago are already fully grown. Driscoll takes one whiff and his knocked unconsious and while he sleeps more trees grow exponentially reaching towards the sun. -
The Locusts
Humans have arrived on Mars and spreading out across the planet colonizing the red surface building towns and making Mars like Earth. And more were coming every day -
Night Meeting
Tomas Gomez is driving to a party when he stops in an old abandoned Martian town where he encounters a Martian. The Martian is named Muhe Ca, the two find themselves unable to touch the others objects and possessions unable to figure out the dilemma each comes to the conclusion that the other is in the past. Eventually they agree to disagree and the Martian disappears into his Martian machine and Tomas continues onto the party. -
The Shore
Mars is a distant shore to the people of Earth. The only people who travel to the red surface were Americans. The first wave to Mars was American and so to was the second wave while war waited for the other countries -
The fire Balloons
Priests head off to Mars to convert the Martians and look for new sins by the colonists on mars. They find a race of blue fires belived to be Martians after they save Father Peregrine one of the preist he forms a relgion around them. However, they politley decline as the fires are already holy beings. -
Interim
More cities are being built as supplies are being shipped from Earth to Mars. Mars is becoming a true home to many of the people there -
The Musicans
Some young boys go and hike in the Martian country. Their parents always told them not to go to the abandoned Martian towns they didn't listen. the boys went to the old Martian towns where the dead were still dead but black from the chicken pox that had destoryed the Martian race. The boys would jump and play on the Martian remains using their ribs as xylophones. The boys however had to vacate the towns fast as people called firemen came and burned the Martian remains away into black smoke. -
The Wilderness
Janice and Leonora are getting ready to travel to Mars but, Janice is scared to go becuase of her fear of Darkness. However together with Leonora she overcomes her fear and travels on the rocket to Mars leaving Earth and their small Missouri town behind. -

The naming of Names
As the Humans contiuned to settle the humans began to name places after those who had come before them. Places like Spender Hill and Nathaniel York town. However, the humans also boruhgt governemnt and red tape that contiuned the bad parts of Earth that some of the settlers had come to Mars to get away from -
Uhser II
William Stendahl has come to Mars to build the house of his dreams a recreation of the house of usher. Stendahl plans revenge by building the house and using it to kill the officals from the office of moral climate who burned all the books on Earth in a great fire. Stendhal kills them all with odes to Edgar Allen Poe poems and finally locks the final offical garret in the cellar before the house descends into a bog just as the first house of usher did. -
The Old Ones
Old people are now coming to Mars just as they did on Earth coming to the warmer areas to retire. -
The Martian
Their is one last Martian on Mars and he can't control his powers. To survive he transforms himself into the person a person most wants to see to an old couple it was their dead son to a police officer it was a lost criminal eventually the Martian strains himself too much and dies. -
The Luggage Store
Father Peregrine and the proprietor talk about how a war is about to happen on Earth. The proprietor thinks that the people on their way to Mars and most that are already on Mars will want to go back to Earth when the bombs drop on America. -
The Off Season
Sam Parkhill from the fourth expedition is back and is now running a hot dog stand on Mars. He claims it will be the best on two worlds and then some Martians appear Sam shoots one of them and they tell him that he now owns half of Mars and Sam is thrilled but questions why the Martians didn't kill him. And just as he finishes setting up his stand the war starts on Earth and the planet is covered in Fire. -
The Watchers
The settlers on Mars are watching as Earth is consumed in Nuclear war with messages telling the Martians to come back to Earth. They all do leaving the proprietor's shelves empty. -
The Silent Towns
Almost everyone on Mars went back to Earth. Walter Gripp is a martian who decided not to go back. He is all alone and wanting someone to talk to. He calls a random phone number and a woman named Genevieve Selsor answers. They decide to meet. Genevieve is disgusting and annoying and when she wants to marry Walter, he leaves Genevieve and continues to live alone in silence on Mars. -
The Long years
Its been 20 years since the bombs fell on Earth and Marshas all but, been abandonned. Hathaway from the foruth expedtion is one of the few humans left on Mars along with his family. One day Capt. Wilder returns from the edges of the solar system to find that Hathaway's family died 20 years ago and that he built robots to replace them. When Hathaway dies from a heart condition Wilder leaves the robots on Mars and returns to Earth. -
There Will come soft rains
A futuristic house keeps performing its daily tasks even though no one is living in the house anymore. The family dog comes in and dies. Meanwhile the house sings the poem the chapter is named after. Eventually a fire brings about the destruction of the house. -
The million year picinic
A father, mother, and their 3 kids land on Mars in a rocket. They all ride down a canal in a boat, while the oldest son, The rocket self-destructs because the Dad wanted his family to begin a new life on Mars and never be able to go back to Earth. The kids keep wanting to see Martians and the father shows them Martians by showing them their reflections in a lake
