    WHAT:- It was a conflict between KMT and CPC, where KMT was supported by the USA and the CPC by the USSR.
    WHY:- USA wanted to build a coalition government that would include all of the contending military groups in China but no group wanted to compromise. This led to a war.
    SIGNIFICANCE:-
    1) led to a partition between China and Taiwan
    2) portrayed the rivalry between US and USSR

    What:- After India got independence, the country was divided into India and Pakistan
    Why:- The divide was based on religious differences between Hindus and Muslims
    SIGNIFICANCE:-
    Around this time, my paternal grandfather used to live in Sindh, Pakistan. However, after the partition, he moved to India and he lost his father in the process.

    What:- USSR blocked the Western Allies' access Berlin. The allies with Canada organized the Berlin airlift to carry supplies there.
    Why:- Their aim was to force the western powers to allow USSR to supply Berlin with necessities, thereby giving the Soviets practical control over the entire city.
