It was made and used around 500BC.This is considerd to be the first computer even though it is nothing like the computers we have today. It was not electronic, but it was a counting board. The abacus whas used to add, substract, divide, multiply, and find the square roots of numbers.

    Analyical EngineThe first modern computer was the Analytical Engine. It was made by Charels Babbage. He got the idea for this machine from looking at Napoleans man made tabels and relized a machine could do it faster and more accurate. The changes were that this machine was strictly a caculator. It was fully programmed and ran on those programs to solve problems. It also added enssintial parts of every computer today. The CPU, the memory device, and the reader and printer the input and output devices.

    kenbakThe first consumer computer was the Kenbak-1. It was made by John Blankenbaker. This was a major step in the history of the computer, because for the first time ever the average person could own a computer. This computer was made as an educational device. It was sold in early 1971 but there is no exact date. It is important to note tht production stopped in 1973 and now they are rare and vaulable to collectors.

    The floppy disk was invented.The floppy disk was made by Yoshiro Nakamatsu. A floppy disk was the primary way of adding data to a computer. The floppy disk reads and writes a small ciruclar peice of metal. It was named the floppy disk due to it's flexabialty. The floppy disk was devolped in the 60's but became commercialy available in 1971.
