During this time period Pol Pot was the leader of the Khmer Rouge and caused deaths of a total of 1.7 million people.

A peace agreement was signed in Paris on Comprehensive Political Settlement and Cambodia conflict by the UN.

King Sihanouk gives the power to his son. The real political power, though, is held by the president, Hun Sen, who was a former Khmer Rouge officer.
