The governor of Boston wanted to take military supplies away from the colonists so they sent British military there. Patriots heard the news and intercepted them at Lexington but lost. Then when the military arrived at Concord they were defeated by the Patriots and little military equipment was destroyed.

This was a document that formally declared the 13 colonies withdrawl from Brisith rule. But Britian did not want to lose its colonies and did not give up without a fight.

Happening on this date and on the 7th of October of the same year, these battles marked a turning point in the war. The Patriots openly asked the French to help against Britian and they defeated their attempts to break their line making the British commander surrender.

When the British got trapped in the Yorktown peninsula by the French Nevy and the Patriots, the British commander realized their was no way they could escape and he surrendered. This means the colonists had basically won the war!

This treaty was the British acknowledging the independence of its former colonists and they accepted defeat.
