  • 1940- The Complex Number Calculator (CNC) is completed

1940- The Complex Number Calculator (CNC) is completed
Bell Telephone Laboratories completes the first complex number calculator, designed by scientist George Stibitz. This was a big step forward for mathmatics, as it was the first remote access computing that could handle complex number equations.
  • 1941: Konrad Zuse finishes the Z3 Computer

1941: Konrad Zuse finishes the Z3 Computer
This invention was the first programmable automatic digital computer. This was an important enhancement because programming has became a key element of modern technology. It was suprisingly used to correct wing flutter issues regarding aeordynamics.
  • 1943: Bell Labs Relay Interpolator is completed

1943: Bell Labs Relay Interpolator is completed
Bell Laboratories developed a analog computer machine that could assist M-9 machine guns to aim at assigned targets. This was an important application for the US Army, as it freed up soldiers hands and sparked new ideas down the line for military equipment.
  • 1944: First Colossus operational at Bletchley Park

1944: First Colossus operational at Bletchley Park
British engineer Tommy Flowers designed the Colossus to break up ciphers used by the Nazis during WW II. This machine greatly shortened the time span of the war because it was able to hide US intentions in the war from the enemy. This is important because it sparked numerous future inventions to be made regarding communication in war.
  • 1948: First Computer Program to Run on a Computer

1948: First Computer Program to Run on a Computer
The new memory technology developed by Williams and Kilburn nicknamed "baby" was the first program in computer history to run on a digital, electronic, and stored program computer. This was a substancial moment in computer technology progression because it allowed for enhancement in the program storage aspect of technology.
