    America's trade was born when Christopher Columbus arrived in America with the Spanish expedition. Even though, Japan introduced the closed doors on trade and even introduced a a system of foreign trade licenses to prevent piracy and smuggling.

    Despite the late introduction to the spice trade, America was profitably trading with Sumatra during the early years of 19th century. Although in 1815, the first shipment of nutmeg was from Sumatra arrived in Europe. Even the first international free trade treaty was made, Cobden-Chevalier Treaty, was finalized in 1860.

Many organizations started after the Depression and War, to make sure America would never fall into that state again.
