    Sandra Day O'Connor becomes the first female member of the United States Supreme Court on September 25, 1981.

  • 1986- Space Shuttle crash

    Explosion of the Challenger Video from CNN The space shuttle Challenger exploded during takeoff on January 28, 1986, killing everyone on board.

  • 1986- Tax Reform Act

    The tax code has been simplified, and the tax base has been expanded. On October 22, 1986, it was dubbed "Reagan tax cuts."

  • 1987- Black Monday

    On October 19, 1987 the New York Stock Exchange had a stock market catastrophe known as Black Monday.

  • 1989- George W. Bush Inagurated as President

    George W. Bush becomes the 41st President of the United States on January 20, 1989.

  • 1992- 27th Amendment

    The 27th Amendment was ratified on May 7, 1992. The United States Congress is prohibited from giving itself a midterm or retroactive salary hike under this Amendment.

  • 1999- Columbine Massacre

    In the United States, this is the fourth deadliest school shooting in history. 14 students and one teacher were killed at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, along with two shooters and 23 others.

  • 2001- 9/11 Terroist Attack

    Two planes attack the World Trade Center, destroying it, while one plane crashes into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, killing more than 3,000 people.
