    Factories

    Factories were made to increase production and advance industry. Factories helped the economy but workers had very poor working conditions. The poor working conditions caused movements which caused the companies to make the conditions more manageable.

    Many inventions were created in the 1800s for the growth of the industry, such as the steam engine and the cotton gin. The inventions were very important to the growth of the country's economy. After the war much of the country was is in distress and in need of money, this caused people to invent devices and cause companies to be made.

    After the Civil war, farmers needed a way to pick cotton without slaves, so they started using cotton gins to pick faster. Eli Whitney created the Cotton gin so that farmers could pick cotton without wasting as much time. The machine was successful and it started being used by many farms as an alternative to slavery.

    City Lifestyle
    The city lifestyle was not good, most people had big families and cities were expensive. The streets were very dirty and many would catch sicknesses. The houses were small, the apartments were even smaller and it was often very cold.(ignitia.com)

    Labor Movement

    Working in factories was dangerous because most had very unsafe conditions. The workers and their families started labor movements to change those conditions. These movements started strikes and eventually were able to change harsh conditions which often got people sick, hurt, or even killed.

    Corporations fueled the economy with the products they sold. Corporations employed tons of people and gave them work for decent pay. Corporations also helped build the foundations of the bigger cities.

    Isolationism

    Isolationism is a policy of noninvolvement in world affairs. One of the Presidents who agreed with Isolationism is Theodore Roosevelt who tried to advance the U.S. instead of being in other countries' problems. The U.S. often tried to abide by isolationism but would be forced into war or aiding other countries.

    Spanish-American War

    This war was started over Cuban rights, Cuba was fighting for liberty and freedom. The Spanish countries did not like this but the U.S. did like it and they had some influence on Cuba. Although they had different viewpoints neither side wanted war, but the U.S. citizens did. So the President started the war which was quickly over with the U.S. and the Spanish agreeing to a truce after the U.S. destroyed and took their ships.(ignitia.com)

    The Cubans were being controlled and had very little freedom. The lack of freedom caused a revolt which led to a war between America and Spain over control for Cuba. The Cubans were eventually able to free themselves with some help from the U.S.

    Theodore Roosevelt
    Theodore Roosevelt became the 26th President when the previous President died while Theodore was Vice President. Theodore served in the military during the Spanish-American war. Theodore spent most of his childhood being weaker, skinny, and sick but began to gain immunity to it. Theodore spent most of his term expanding the U.S. and its land.
