  • Congress passes bill to ban slave trade.

    Congress passes bill to ban slave trade.
    In 1805 the first bill was signed by president Jefferson. Even though it was signed and passed they weren't allowed to put it into effect untill January 1, 1808.
    Even though this was passed it didn't stop the buying or selling of slaves. It just stopped the importation of new slaves. This was importaint to slavery because it was the first signto slaves that the way they were being treated might be coming to an end.
  • Fredrick Douglass

    Fredrick Douglass
    12818-1895 was his life span. He was a very importaint person. He was born a slave but always looked for ways that he could be freed. He was a major influance in the war. He learned to read and freed himself. 1845 he published an autobiography. He also did the North Star paper.
    He was importaint because he stood up for anti slavery even though he knew that he could be killed or caught and taken back into slavery. He wrote books and papers for people. He also dedicated his whole life to slavery.
  • Nat Turner Rebellion

    Nat Turner Rebellion
    Nat Turner led a rebellion on August 22, 1831. He went around and killed sixty men, women, and children in Virginia. What he did was go house to house and killed these people. The believed that slavery was wrong. His rebellion included 70 free africans.
    This was an importaint event because he rebelled&he killed whites. Not only white men but the women and children too,
    That was a big thing back then and he knew he was going to die. Even though he knew he was going to die, he stood up anyways.
  • Black Seminole Uprising

    Black Seminole Uprising
    The Black Seminole Uprising was from 1835-1836. It was the largest slave revolt in U.S history. About 385 runaway slaves joined them and faught for their freemdom. They were protected by the Mexican army if anyone tried to take them back into slavery.
    The reason this is importaint is because not only was it the largest it was also the first time that the government tried to make an agreement with them.They had some say and that was a new thing back then. They did alot but eventually got noticed.
  • Amistad took place.

    Amistad took place.
    In 1839, 53 captives were taken away from Eastern Africa and forced to be on a slave ship. 3 days into the trip a captive broke free and took over the ship. They took over and tried to sail home. They ended up sailing to the U.S and towed to Connecicut. They had a long trial. Eventually they were freed.
    This is an Impoortaint event because it was one of the first time that slaves faught back. Not only did they fight back, they managed to get free and prove to some people they were humans too.
  • Creole Case

    Creole Case
    The Creole Case was about 135 slaves that had to travel on a ship even though it was illegal. The slaves took over the captin and sailed themselves to the Bahamas. Great Britian controlled that land so they said they would not return the slaves and that make the U.S mad.
    This was importaint because not only did these slaves manage to sail by themselves, they managed to get free because of it. Great Britian said that because it is their land they do not have to return it, This shocked the U.S.
  • Dred Scott

    Dred Scott
    Dred Scott was a slave who lived in free territory for over half his life. Once his owner died he believed that he should have the right to be free, even though they were moved back into slave territory. This because a big case and the supreme court got the final say, They said that property can't sue and that he was to remain a slave.
    Eventually he was freed though and this was importaint because it drew alot of attention the the issues of slavery and how they feel or see things.
  • John Brown Harpers Ferry

    John Brown Harpers Ferry
    John Brown was big on anti slavery. He killed men just because they supported it, even if they didn't own any slaves. On October 16 he raided Harpers Ferry and planned to get weaponds. He planned to be able to get away. That didn't happen and all but 5 raiders were caught.
    this was an importaint event because John Brown was a white man and stood up for what he believed in, People used this as a mark for anti slavery and still today is considered importaint.
