    The Battle of the Atlantic from 1939 to 1945 was the longest-running battle of World War II. The war started when a German submarine attacked a passenger ship, after which Canada produced many Corvettes to join the war. As Britain cracked the German Enigma for U boat, the tide of the war turned. Eventually, Germany surrendered to Canada and the war ended.

    In 1941, the British asked the Canadian army to help the British colony of Hong Kong, so Canada sent the army to garrison Hong Kong. Six hours after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Japanese troops attacked Hong Kong. Canadian troops tried their best to stop the Japanese attack. On Christmas Day, the Canadian Corps regained lost ground on the southern tip of the island, but at a heavy price, the Canadian army failed.

    Canadian, British, French, and American military personnel launched Operation Jubilee. They reached the French coast in the early hours of August 19 and began their attack. The German attack was very violent, coupled with the terrain. This prevented them from leaving the beach and the tanks were restricted in movement.     In order to accelerate the defeat of Germany, the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom attacked Normandy and France. It was the largest sea invasion in history. Canada was the most successful in the attack on Juneau Beach, with troops advancing faster than the other allies. The war successfully recaptured France from the Germans.

    Canada liberates the Netherlands from Nazi occupation. The Allies launched Operation Market Garden to try to liberate the Netherlands but failed. Through the Battle of the Scheldt, Canada successfully reached the Netherlands. Canada also provides food to the Dutch. Germany surrendered on May 7, 1945.

    After Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, it also attacked Allied forces throughout the Pacific. Canada was the first to formally declare war with Japan. Five days after the US dropped the atomic bomb, Japan surrendered. Since then the Pacific War and World War II have ended.
