    Common Core State Standards Implementation
CCSS WebsiteWith the implementation of the Common Core State Standards in the 2014-15 school year, we will see a shift in instructional practice to include more collaboration and communication among students. There will be more emphasis on higher order thinking and conceptual understanding. This will begin to change classrooms by making the front of the classroom less of the focus and the facilitator role of the teacher will require the setup of desks, tables, student groupings to change.
  • Next Generation Assessments

    Next Generation Assessments
Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium TimelineThe first year of the next generation assessments will be the ultimate wake-up call for the Common Core State Standards. Performance-based tasks will truly test the skills of students to research, communicate, collaborate and be creative. Even the multiple choice portion of the assessment will be a change. The fact that it is a computer adaptive test will challenge the network infrastructure and hardware capacity of schools... but will improve the experience of testing for students.

    A Whole New Classroom
School 2.0Schools and classrooms will undergo a complete change by the year 2020. When you arrive at a school in January 2020 you will see classrooms of different sizes and with different numbers of teachers. Classes will be multi-grade and learning will be mostly directed by the students themselves. Part of the class will be taught online, and creativity tools will be available on digital devices for all students. The teacher will work with smaller groups and students will complete integrated projects.
