    Not much is known about Champlain's early life other than that he was born around 1570 in a vallage called Brouage in France
  • First Journey

    First Journey
    Champlain has just taken his first step on Canadian Soil, after taking a journey across the Atlantic Ocean. He thought that Canada was an amazing land with fertile soil and beautiful landscape! Champlain thought that no one could find a more beautiful land!

    Samuel returned to North America as a map maker for Sieur de Monts. Sieur noticed Samuels talent in map making so he decided to take Samuel on his next fur trading expedition.

    The friendship between the French and Natives.
    During the time period of 1603-1605, Champlain did alot of ambassodor work for france, with the natives. His being with the natives was considered more buisness then being diplomacy. Champlain never took very many armed men with him. Because of this he made aquantiances with them which made the Natives and French get along well as long as the French were with the Natives.

    De Mots has returned with news that was quite discouraging. The fur trading expoditoin was revoked, therefore Champlain and De Mots could not go. The King had changed his mind after fur traders insisted that there be some compittions in fur trade.Champlain asked De Mots to delay his trip back to france until the corn was ready to harvest, so he could show the king how fertile the land really was!
  • First Year In Quebec

    First Year In Quebec
    During this first year in Quebec Champlain has become friends with the local natives, The Hurons and Montagnais. These groups happened to be enimies of the Iroquios. Champlain did this instead of kicking them off thier land. Champlain decied that he could bring the Christian faith to them trhough the friendship he has made witht these tribes. Samuel made an agreement that he would support them in their attackes against their enimies, but only if they helped him find another passage to the east.

    Champlain went in 1608 back to Quebec and brought 28 men with him. The winter was very harsh and cold. Only 8 settlers survived includiing Champlain was devestating.
  • Before his Return To France.

    Before his Return To France.
    Time came before Champlain returned to France for hime to join the warpath. Champlain had to prove that he could do his part in the agreement. Champlain brought 12 soldiers on a small boat, they were fully armored and carrying rifels. They went down south of the Richelieu River, along with their 60 native allies. At one point the small boat couldn't go any farther, Champlain got volenteers to go on in the native canoes. Only 3 out of the 12 men he went with continued on his journey.

    Champlain had returned to France, and his allies were on top of him about his agreement to join the warpath. The natives had gained trust in him and described him as the man who kept his word. The natives have not taken Champlain exploring and if he went with them to attack the Iroquios they would do it.

    The natives have again asked Champlain to go to war against the Iroquois. Champlain agreed. The natives said that they would find 2500 men and Champlain only mannaged to find 12. But when Champlain and his men arrived they found that the natives only brought 500 men. Champlain was mad and said that his 12 men with thier guns could destroy the Iroquios.

    Champlain had the privillage to see the first family to settle on his land, The Lois Herbert family. Herbert arrived with his wife two daughters and son to Quebec. This family would strive to live a successful life off of Samuel's land. Herbert worked on this land for 10 years then passed away.
  • Christmas Death

    Christmas Death
    On this day Champlain passed away, and went to live with Jesus. He passed away after having a paralyzing stroke.Samuel de Camplain will always be remembered as the Father of France.
