An attempt to assassinate Tsar Alexander II failed, killing 11 and wounding 56.

3rd March 1918- Russia finishes its participation in the First World War. Russia loses one-third of the old empire’s population, one-third of its railway network, half its industry, three-quarters of its supplies of iron ore, nine-tenths of its coal resources and much of its food supplies. This was extremely unfair and left most of Russia depressed.

Yuri Gagarin becomes the first astronaut. He was a Soviet pilot and cosmonaut. He became the first human to launch into outer space when his Vostok spacecraft completed one orbit of the Earth on 12 April 1961.
