April 19-20, 1836, Texas soldiers under the command of Sam Houston camped in the trees waiting for Santa Anna and his men to arrive. On April 21 Houston's soldiers attacked the Mexican Army. The battle lasted only 18 minutes. Texas soldiers had killed 623 Mexican soldiers and captured 730 of them, only losing 2 of his men and having 6 fatally injured (Campbel 2018).

This treaty ended the war with Mexico. As a result, all Mexican soldiers would return south of the Rio Grande. Santa Anna also signed a secret treaty agreeing to use his influence to convince the Mexican govt to recognize Texas as an independent republic

A group of 33 Penateka chiefs and warriors and 32 others marched into San Antonio. A young Indian chief stabbed the commander of Texas troops and a fight commenced. Supposedly, Indians tortured most of the white Texans to death and led to one of the greatest Comanche Raids in history (Campbell, 2018)

Under the command of General Hugh McLeod, President Lamar believed that an expedition through Texas could convince the people of Santa Fe to cut tied with Mexico. The expedition struggle greatly crossing unknown territory between Austin and Santa Fe, heat and food shortage plagued the troops, and by the time they reached New Mexico, the governor of Mexico city had heard of the expedition and ordered the Texans to be arrested (Campbell, 2018).
