About 200000 workers and their families went on strike for better working conditions and freedom. Hundreds were killed and 1000 were wounded. This was known as bloody sunday and this act of agression against the people provoked more strikes and violence.

Then the Duma was created by the Czar of Russia in May. This was like Russias parliment, their first one ever. After 10 weeks Nicholas 11 got rid of them for himself to be more powerful.

Russia got dragged into WW1 by their Tzar Nicholas 11. They were not prepared for what was going to happen in the war and the costs. This tragic war showed weaknesses in their Tzar and the goverment.

Woman textile workers in Petrograd led a citywide strike. Riots flared up over shortages in bread and fuel. Nearlyn 200000 workers swarmed the streats screaming and chanting. The military was ordered to shoot but chose not to.

Armed factory workwers stormed the Winter palace in Petrograd. They called themselves the Bolshevik Red guard and they took over Higher ranked people in the government.

In March 1918 Russia and Germany signed a treaty called Brest-Litovsk. Russia surrendered, therefore they gave up territory and its allies to the Germans. The Russian people weere not pleased with the actions of their officals.

The Civil war was finaslly over in Russia.This war was far more deadly the anyone could have predicted, more then 14 million Russains died.This left Russia in chaos. The Red army cruhed all in the end.

Lenin put everything aside to focus on a new idea of Capitalism called New Economic Policy. This allowed the pesents to sell their surplus of crops to the people instead of giving them to the government. Russias government was still in control of mopst of the countries industries.

Bolshevik leaders saw problems in nationalism as a threat to unity and party loyalty. After discovering this Lenin orginized Russia into into several self-governing republics under the cental government. Then the soviet Union was born in honor of councils that helped launch the Bolshevik Revolution.
