  • Period: 1095 to 1291

    The Crusades

    In the several hundred years leading up to 1095 the Christian world had been roughly conquered by Islamic empires. What was once the entirety of Christendom including the middle east, northern Africa, and Spain being entirely taken over by these Islamic world. And the Christians in those land were heavily persecuted and pilgrims to the holy land were being killed. When Pope Urban ll heard about this he launched a counter attack to prevent the utter destruction of Christendom.

    The Black Death

    The plague was caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis or Y. pestis. Some of the symptoms were swollen lymph grands, fevers, vomiting, and shortness of breath. It traveled through Russia across Europe and into England killing 75 million people. It would spread by flea-ridden rats on boats and fleas on bodies.

    Early Renaissance

    The Renaissance was a rebirth of classical art and literature that started in Italy and specifically in Florence and the Northern parts of Italy. Many of the artists and writers of the time drew inspiration from the Greeks and Romans. Art was a big factor in this Royal and rich families all around Europe would commission art.

    Age of exploration

    The Age of exploration was a time period that overlapped the Age of Sail. Approximately during the 15th century to the 17th century Europeans explored regions around the globe. During this time Christopher Columbus sailed to the Americas in August, 1492. After 10 long weeks of sailing, from the part of Palos, Spain Columbus and his crew saw the new world.
  • Period: 1490 to 1527

    High Renaissance

    The high Renaissance was centered in Rome and this period of time was noted for inspiring ideas back into art. The artists keys were focused on presenting pieces of visual, symmetrical, and perfection. One the most famous paintings was created by Leonardo de Vinci in 1503 which was the Mona Lisa. The high Renaissance ended in 1520's with the death of Raphael other say it ended in 1527 with the Sack of Rome.

    Protestant Reformation

    The Protestant Reformation was a religious reform that swept through Europe in the 1500s. It resulted in the branch of Christianity called Protestantism which refers to many religious groups that separated the Roman Catholic Church. The Protestant Reformation began in Wittenberg, Germany on October, 1517 when Martin Luther published a document of the 95 theses. The 95 theses were 95 ideas about Christianity that he invited people to debate with him.

    Late Renaissance

    The Late Renaissance was artwork that typically took others work of art as models. The primary subject during this time was the human body often elongated, exaggerated, elegant and arranged in twisted poses. A famous art piece that was created during this time was the Perseus with the head of Medusa.
  • Period: 1550 to

    Scientific Revolution

    The Scientific Revolution was events that used modern science during the modern period, developments like math, physics, astronomy, biology, and chemistry changed views of society about nature. During this time Galileo built the enhanced refracting telescope in 1609. He discovered Jupiter's four largest satellites, spots on the sun, phases of Venus, hills and valleys on the moon. Many other inventions were created during this time like Concave lens , telescope , magnetism and much more.
