Pythagorean Theorem

  • California Common Core Standards/ Big Idea

    Geometry 8.G
    8. Apply the Pythagorean Theorem to find the distance between two points in a coordinate system.
    Big Idea:
Students will also learn how to solve word problems using the Pythagorean theorem. This makes them think critically about trying to set up the equation before actually solving the equation.
  • Organization

Organization is an important skill to have in whatever you are doing. That is why a few points will be linked to this. Do not be sloppy
  • Instructions

In a group of 2 or 3 students answer the word problems on the graphic organizer. You have two options when answering these questions. You can create a flip book or you can continue on your own graphic organizer. When producing your projects be creative. Your group can draw the pictures or print them online, but you must have a diagram that fits with the word problem. Next show how you used the Pythagorean Theorem to solve the problem. Lastly on one of the pages tell me why you would need to know
  • Choose a group

Create groups of about 2- 3 students
  • Flip Book or Graphic Organizer

As a group decide if you would rather design a flip book or a graphic organizer.
  • Creativity

Being creative in your project holds some key points. Do not be sloppy.

    Creating your Diagrams

On these days you will be creating your diagrams for the word problems.
  • Extra Credit

If you would like you can create your own word problem and solve it. You then must tell me how this is important for you to know in the real world.

    Problems solved

On your flip book make sure your problems are worked out, showing all your work.

    Why?

Why is one of the problems you solved important for you to know in the real world.
