    Created to oppose the federalist party; Preferred state power over federal power; Worried that the people wouldn't have enough power if the national govt. was too powerful.
  • Democratic-Republicans

    Also made to oppose the federalist; Thomas Jefferson's way of trying to take down Hamilton; Strongest in the South
  • Jacksonian Democrats

    "Democracy for the common man"; Led by Andrew Jackson and lasted until slavery became a big issue in the US.
  • Modern Democrats

    Modern Democrats
    Push for modern liberalism which advocates social and economic equality, along with a welfare state; Universal healthcare, cheaper college, equal opportunity, and environmental protection.
  • Modern Republicans

    Modern Republicans
    Named after the idea of republicanism; Their ideology is American conservatism. They support lower taxes, free market capitalism, free enterprise, strong national defense, gun rights, deregulation, and restrictions on labor unions.
  • The Party of Lincoln (National Union Party)

    Cover name for the republican party; Elected Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson to take control during the Civil War.
  • Roosevelt Democrats

    FDR was elected in 1933 and created a lot of new changes for the US like creating The New Deal; FDR fought through the Great Depression and WWII; evidently the political decision to elect him was very beneficial.
