Feodor III Dies, Ivan V and Peter I take the crown

  • Peter Takes the Crown For Himself

Peter Takes the Crown For Himself
Because of Ivan V's serious mental and physical disabilities, he was only by name ruler, Peter I made all the decisions. In February, though, Ivan was no longer able to do anything, so Peter solely resumed Tsardom when he was 24 years old.
  • Peter Goes on the Grand Tour of Europe

Peter Goes on the Grand Tour of Europe
The Grand Tour of Europe, also known as the Grand Embassy, was a (futile) quest in which Peter wished to accomplish three things: receive aid/assistance from Western European Monarchs, (start to) modernize Russia, and obtain help with battling the Ottoman Empire.
  • The Great Northern War Begins

Peter had just finished acquiring peace with the Ottoman Empire, which drove his attention to gaining territory in the Baltic States. The Great Northern War was extremely long and drastic, and was fought by Peter the Great and Charles XII of Sweden. The main reason Peter had started this war was because he belived education was key to Russia's progress. Thinking this, he wanted a seaport to be able to travel to the west. After 21 extremely long years of war, Peter won, forming St. Petersburg.

    St. Petersburg is Founded
To build this city, an estimated 25,000-100,000 people died from the terrible conditions. Peter captured a Swedish fort, Nyenskans, and finished building all of St. Petersburg in the summer of 1703, though many peasants and soldiers died in the making.

    Sickness & Death

Like his half-brother, Feodor, Peter wasn't the healthiest person. In the Winter of 1723, he had a problem with a blocked urinary tract. He soon had an emergency surgery, but never fully recovered. In the beginning of 1725, he suffered from Uremia and fell into a coma until February 8th when he died.
Fun Fact: roughly 4 pounds of urine was removed during the 'emergency operation.'
(I put Januray 1st because the date was never specified.)
