Peter is born to Tsar Alexis and his second wife Natalya. He is one of four children Alexis has, and is of the Romanov household.

The death of Alexis leaves his oldest son, Fedor III, in charge. Fedor is Peter's older half-brother.

Sophia and Ivan's family gained the favor of the Kremlin guard, and with their help stormed the castle in Moscow where Peter was ruling out of. Peter witnessed his folowers being "thrown from the top of the grand Red Stair of the Faceted Palace onto the raised pikes of the Guard." This experience led Peter to hate the city of Moscow, and it also caused a sturggle for power.

Feodor III was sick when he took the thrown, and died only 6 short years later. HIs death leads to a dispute between the families of Peter and Ivan & Sophia. The Miloslavsky family believed Sophia and Ivan deserved the thrown. Ivan was next in line for the thrown, but he was extremely mentally handicapped, and so they ruled in favor of Peter's family.

Peter is chosen by the Boyar Duma to rule Russia after Feodor's death. This causes tension with the Miloslavsky family.

After months of fighting, it is decided that Ivan & Peter will be joint tsars under the regency of their sister Sophia.

Sophia tried to gain full control of Russia once again. After this, she was forced into a monestary, and Peter had the members of her revolt executed outside her window, supposedly, and after this she went crazy. -
Peter spent the first two years of his diplomacy touring Europe and used this experience to learn about Western culture, and about European army tactics.This also inspired him to modernize Russian culture and ethics.

During this time, Peter was setting out to expand the Russian borders. He attempted to take the Black Sea region from the Tartars and failed.

Peter resolved to build up the navy and attempt a second attack against the Tartar.

Peter seizes control of the base and officially founds the Russian nval base Taganrog.

Peter did a lot of reforming during his years in power. He banned traditional dressings for males. He personally shaved the beards of his nobility and clergymen. He established a better military, technical schools, and replaced their churhc's patriarchy with a holy synod who answered to him. He simplified their alphabet, changed the fuction of their calendar, and used the term Emperor instead of Tsar.

The Peter & Paul Fortress was built.

Between these years, many reforms were made the the way Russia worked. They received their frist newspaper. They also held their first census and enforced their first poll tax. Provinces were created, and St. Petersburg was made the capital.

Martha converts to Russian Orthodox, changes name to Catherine, and marries Peter.
