Opium War
It all started when the Chinese destroyed a shipment of Opium. A big dispute broke out. Since the Britis won, China had to agree to unequal treaties. In the end, Opium is produced in safe factories and other medicine is being made in the poppy fields. -
Taiping Rebellion
It was a revolt of the peasants protesting against the Qing dynasty. The peasants did not like the way they were being treated. It lasted 14 brutal years and 20 million people died. -
Boxer Rebellion
The anti foreign chinese took action against the westerners to kick them out of the world. eventually, this plan worked. -
The Long March Begins
This all started because Mao Zedong was afraid of Chiang Kaishek. He fled away with about 90,000 communists and their families. -
The Long March Ends
Only about 7.000 survived the long dangerous trek. This became a symbol of the bitter hardships the communists had to go through before they finally gained pwer in 1949. -
Tiananmen Square Massacre
It started with the protesting of the students for more repect and be treated better. The government did not take it so well and warned them if they did not stop, they will take it into their own hands. on july 3rd, 1989, the military started to open fire. after a couple of days, it ended and China denied that it even happened
