    Military defeat for Napoleon however, he managed to turn it around by denying defeat in the nile, and making it into a PR victory for himself. By the time news reached France of the defeat it had become irrelevant in the eyes of the public.

    Whilst the consulate mostly served as a stepping stone for Napoleon to gain absolute power, it was far more effective than the previous revolutionary governments like the directory that failed miserably. So overall it could be considered a victory for Napoleon to gain power, and France to have a stable government.

    The campaign resulted in a major victory for the French, gaining territory, and setting up satellite states in Italy, one of the first major victories, and expansions of the French empire.

    The national bank of France helped with economic recovery after the Revolution, and was useful in funding for wars, Napoleons rise in power was in part due to bankers. It is still in use today as a state owned institution.

    For Napoleon, and France The Battle of Trafalgar was a massive defeat for the French and Spanish Navies, losing most of their ships in the battle. The defeat solidified the superiority of the British navy, and Napoleon was never able to seriously challenge the Royal navy.

    The destruction of the Holy Roman Empire was a major victory for France as it meant the complete destruction of one of their biggest enemies. For the German people it was initially a shock, and led to protest. However it paved the way for the unification of Germany.

    The continental System was enacted with the intent of strengthening the French economy, isolating Britain, and establishing French influence over Europe. However it backfired, and led to resistance from many of France's allies.

    The resistance from the Spaniards was a thorn in Napoleons side, as he was never able to fully control Spain, and despite many failed uprisings, the coalition was eventually able to push the French out of the Iberian peninsula.

    The Invasion of Russia was Napoleons first major defeat, it shattered his reputation of being invincible, and was a major set back for France's hopes of dominating Europe.

    Decisive coalition victory that led to the dissolution of the Confederation of the Rhine, and the beginning of the invasion of France that would ultimately lead to Napoleons first abdication.

    Period in which Napoleon was able to shortly regain power, and attempt to defeat the coalition, ended in failure and Napoleon was exiled further away. Marked the end of the Napoleon era.

    The Battle Of Waterloo was perhaps the greatest defeat for France and Napoleon it led to Napoleons abdication. It led to France falling from its abiltiy to challenge Britain, and Pax Britannica in which for the next one century Britain was essentially unrivaled as the worlds dominant superpower.

    After he was defeated Napoleon was forced to abdicated his throne, and the monarchy was restored. He tried to flee to America however was instead exiled for a last time to St. Helena. With his abdication the French Empire was officially gone.
