    Napoleon is Born
    Born on the Mediterranean island of Corsica. He was the eldest of the eight children of Carlo and Letizia.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    50 citizens became angry at British soldiers in Boston and started throwing snowballs, sticks and stones at them. The British general called in more troops and they fired into the crowed of citizens killing 5.

    War between the American colonies and Great Britain. America wanted to be it's own country and not be controlled by Britain. America eventually won after a long hard batlle.

    Spain Declares War vs. Great Britain
    The Spanish had sustained serious losses against the British in the Seven Years War. British occupied Havana and Manilla which were two key trading ports for Spain. In June Spain was ready to attack and British was low in debt because of the Revolutionary War.

    The French Revolution resulted in the French to overthrow the monarchy. They then gained religious tolerance and set up state schools. The citizens obtained the right to question or criticize government as well as the right to vote for whoever they wanted as their ruler.

    Royalist rebels marched on the National Convention, a government official told Napoleon to defend the delegates. Napoleon and his gunnes greeted the thousands of royalists with a cannonade. Within minutes, the attackers fled in panic and confusion. Napoleon became the hero of the hour and was hailed throughout Paris as the savior of the French Republic.

    The Louisiana Purchase was a land deal between the United States and France, in which the U.S. acquired about 827,000 square miles of land west of the Mississippi River for $15 million dollars. It gave the U.S. many advantages like having the mouth of the river for trading.

    Napoleon decided to make himself emperor and the French voters supported him. Napoleon walked down the aisle of Norte Dame Cathedral in Paris. The pope placed the crown on his head and Napoleon signaled that he was more powerful than the church.

    Napoleon ordered a blockade to prevent all trade and communication between Great Britain and other European countries. The blockade wasn't tight enough so British smugglers managed to bring cargo into Europe. British then responded with their own blockade. This weakended the economies of France and other lands of Napoleon's control.

    Portugal was ignoring Napoleon's Continental System. Napoleon sent an army through Spain to invade Portugal. Spanish towns rioted in protest, Napoleon deposed the Spanish King and put his brother in charge. This move outraged the Spanish people and inflamed their nationalistic feeloings, since they remained fiercely loyal to their monarch.

    Napoleon's Third Mistake

    Napoleon's ally, Alexander I, wouldn't sto selling grain to Britain. Because of this and other suspicious acts Napoleon decided to invade Russia. As Napoleon and his army entered Russia in June Alexander pulled back his troops. On September 7the armies fought again in the Battle of Borodino. Napoleon won but when he returned to Moscow on September 14 the enitre city in flames.
