When Napoleon sent an expedition to Saint Domingue in order to stop the revolt and reclaim the profitable sugar industry, the expedition failed horribly, leading to Napoleon leaving his dream of an American Empire.

    During the French Revolution, England had invaded the French port city of Toulon. The French were trying desperately to retake the city when the captain overseeing the siege was wounded. Napoleon was given the chance to lead and devised a plan to recapture Toulon. His plan succeeded and within 48 hours, Toulon was under French control once again.

    Napoleon had hoped to defeat Great Britain and so he teamed up with Spain to launch an attack on the island. The British Commander, Admiral Nelson, had previously beaten Napoleon in Egypt and was once again victorious against the two navies off the Spanish coast.
