He later becomes commander of the French armies in Italy where he becomes well-known for speed, surprise, and decisive action.He defeated the aremies of the Papal States and their Austrian allies. -

The Austrians are forced to sign a ceasefire and Napoleon returns to France a hero. Returns to Paris after hearing of the military crisis facing France -
Coup d'etat
At the age of 30, Napoleon siezes France in the coup d'etat. -
Crowns Himself Emperor
At 35, Napoleon crowns himself emperor of France. He also created a standard set of laws know as the Napoleonic Code, which are still used today, and set off on a military campaign to expand the empire. Other countries became to resent being called French and feelings of Nationolism start to grow. -

When Napoleon began to lose battles his people turned on him and exiled him to the island of Elba where he was allowed to rule the island. He esaceped later that year -
