    MPM1D - Course at a Glance

  • Unit#1 - Review and Number Sense

Unit#1 - Review and Number Sense
The first unit is meant to ease you back into mathematics. It is also meant to introduce you to extra-curricular opportunities within the high school. You will complete an introductory quiz to see what you remember and what you need to brush up on. You will learn how to work with integers as well as apply them to real life situations. You will learn the exponent laws, review percents, ratios, and rates. There are two quizzes and one assign
  • Unit#2 - Algebra

    Unit#2 - Algebra
The second unit is meant to demonstrate that math is more than just numbers. This unit continues to reveal extra-curricular opportunities within the high school. You will learn new algebra terminology which will prove useful throughout the rest of the course. You will learn how to recognize as well as manipulate different types of polynomials. Furthermore, you will delve into more complex problem-solving situations involving real-life scenarios. There is a quiz and an assignment to end the unit.
  • Unit#3 - Linear Relations

    Unit#3 - Linear Relations
You will gather, analyze, manipulate, and display data from primary and secondary sources to model and communicate results. You will conduct investigations to verify or refute your own conjecture, using lines or curves of best fit, tables and pattern descriptions, and communicate your findings and describe trends. You will explore the characteristics of lines and their corresponding equations. To solve problems, you will recognize and model realistic situations that involve constant rates of cha
  • Unit#4 - Analytic Geometry

    Unit#4 - Analytic Geometry
You will use the ideas and contexts from Unit Three to develop algebraic models of linear relations. You will explore and determine the characteristics of lines and their corresponding equations through the use of spreadsheets, graphing technology, and paper and pencil. You will learn how to use algebra to solve "real-life" math problems.
  • Unit#5 - Measurement

    Unit#5 - Measurement
You will use concrete materials, diagrams, drawings and dynamic geometric software to investigate the properties of three dimensional objects, optimal measurements and geometric relationships of two dimensional figures. You will pose questions and confirm or deny statements using observations made with the help of technology, judge the reasonableness of answers and solve multi-step problems.
  • Unit#6 - Geometry

    Unit#6 - Geometry
You will formulate hypotheses, test them, and report your conclusions, using examples. You will be using a dynamic geometry software, The Geometer's Sketchpad, throughout the unit.
