  • The Enlightenment

    The Enlightenment
    The Enlightenment was a time period where European philosophers thought about ways to change life around them. The ideas that they came up with pertained to the social, political, and economical aspects. This was because philosophers weren't happy with the way the world was run at that time. (1650-1804)
  • Industrial Revolution

    Industrial Revolution
    This revolution began in Great Britain and spread rapidly through Europe. Factories were being constructed and machines were replacing hand production and making the jobs of laborers much easier. (1760-1830)
  • Formation of the National Assembly

    Formation of the National Assembly
    This was the group made by the third estate after they were tired of being treated so unfairly in the estates-general. They pledged not to stop until a constitution was created of what was best for the French people.
  • The creation of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen

    The creation of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen
    This constitution was created by the National Assembly and included the natural and other fair rights. They made the document because the people of the third estate were treated very unjustly compared to the people of the first and second estates.
  • Boukman Revolt

    Boukman Revolt
    This was the slave rebellion that was believed to be the start of the Haitian Revolution. The revolt was lead by Dutty Boukman because the slaves were sick of being treated so brutally.

    The Reign of Terror
    This was when the Commitee of Public Safety was in charge of France for this period of time. Maximillion Robespierre thought that the only way to keep control of the country was through fear.

    War of Knives
    The brutal civil war between rebel leaders L'Ouverture and Rigaud. Rigaud thought that he should be the leader of Haiti instead of Toussaint so he attacked L'Ouverture and this led to the war between the two leaders. (1799-1800)

    the creation of the Haitian Constitution
    The Haition Constituion was created by Toussaint L'Ouverture. There were three key points to this document. Free slaves had to go back to work in the fields, L'Ouverture was named ruler for life, and Catholicism was made the official religion of Haiti.
  • Peninsular War

    Peninsular War
    The Peninsular war was the battle between the French (Napoleon) and the Portugese. War was declared because the Portugese refused to take part in the continental system that France had all of Europe to follow. Also, Napoleon had to go through Spain to get to Portugal and so the Spanish and their allies were brought into the war too. In the end, France was defeated. (1808-1814)
  • Treaty of Kanagawa

    Treaty of Kanagawa
    This was the treaty between the United States and Japan. The U.S told Japan that if they didn't start opening trade ports then they would go to war. The treaty allowed the United States to set up an Embassy in Japan and open trade ports.
  • Sepoy Mutiny

    Sepoy Mutiny
    Sepoys of the British East India Company revolted against the British officers.They revolted because the Muslims and the Hindus were infuriated that the British were completely disregarding their religious beliefs in the creation of the gun cartridges. (1857-1859)
  • Meiji Era

    Meiji Era
    The Meiji Era was a time ruled by Mutshito. Reforms such as modernizing education and the military were made in Japan. Mutshito also sent men to other countries to see what the best government was for Japan to use. (1868-1912)
  • Berlin Conference

    Berlin Conference
    During the Berlin Conference, 14 European countries got together to decide how they were going to split up Africa. THere were no African people present at this meeting to ensure the fairness of the splitting of Africa. (1884-1885)
  • Boxer Rebellion

    Boxer Rebellion
    This revolt took place in China against the Dowager Empress Cixi. The peasants rebelled in an effort to get rid of foreign influence. In the end, the Boxers lost but the ideas sparked and grew. (1898-1900)
  • Partition of India

    Partition of India
    This was when the former British-controlled India was split into India and Pakistan. They did this because the Hindus and the Muslims couldn't solve their conflicts about representation in the government.
